Log Woodworking Tools

The log woodworking tools needed for a hewn log cabin are not extremely expensive. Here are the ones you may want to have around:
Hatchet Hatchet
Mallet Mallet
Broad Axe Broad Axe
Chisel Chisel
Corner Chisel Corner Chisel
Draw Knife Draw Knife
Froe Froe
Slick Slick
Adze Adze
Pry Bar Pry Bar
Chalk Line Chalk Line
Chainsaw Chainsaw
Square Square
Level Level
Jack Plane Jack Plane
Auger With Brace Auger

Most all of these tools can be purchased on ebay for a decent price if you will not be anxious. One week a broad axe with a curved handle will sell for around $100.00. Then two weeks later a similar axe fetches near $50.00. I have seen them show up occasionally at local auctions but never when I needed them! I try to avoid antique shops and dealers as they have these items marked up too high hoping to catch a collector.

The single most important factor with tools (aside from safety) is keeping them sharp! A sharp tool does the job faster and safer. I keep two small oil stones, oil and a rag with me at all times when working. The rougher stone has to be used occasionally but more often I use the fine stone every couple of hours.

The chainsaws also must be kept sharp. Do yourself a favor and buy the sharpener that clamps to the bar. It gets the same angle every time and doesn’t take too long.

free log woodworking tools.
