Sharpening Traditional Woodworking Tools?

What do you keep with you to sharpen tools as you are working? Sometimes mine are getting dull before the day is out when I can go back to my garage to sharpen them. Any tips?

The single most important factor with traditional woodworking tools (aside from safety) is keeping them sharp! A sharp tool does the job faster and safer. I keep two small oil stones, oil and a rag with me at all times when working. The rougher stone has to be used occasionally but more often I use the fine stone every couple of hours.

The chainsaws also must be kept sharp. Do yourself a favor and buy the sharpener that clamps to the bar. It gets the same angle every time and doesn’t take too long.
